I just listened to the message from last nights groom on the Northern Loop.
I am sorry to say, that we are about all done. I could pick and choose and tell what is ridable, and what is not, but there is no decent loops, and no getting from one destination to another without encountering difficulty. This weekend and next weeks forecast shows no signs of snow, and temps above freezing for the next 10 days.
If you rode this area this year, thanks for checking out our local community, if not, then hopefully we will see you next season.
Once I have the final numbers, I will post up the tally, but I think we were on track to groom about 15% of our normal mileage this season. That is not to say the trails were bad all winter, in fact they were pretty smooth and ridable for a good chunk of the winter, there was just not enough snow to make bumps to groom.
This is the end to a sorry season on many levels. So this is Snow VP, signing off Trail Conditions for the 2010 season (unless we get a 100 yr snowstorm that is!)
PREVIOUS POST:
Another weekend, and another partial meltdown.
Fridays snow amounted to about 3" on the Northern Trails, and about 2" on the Southern trails. We groomed the Northern trail up on Friday, and things turned out well. A quote from the groomer said: " About the best trails I have seen this season. Only 2 small problem areas on the Carp River TT." OK, but we need to qualify that by saying the season has pretty much sucked.
The Southern trail remain ungroomed, and I don't plan on running that groomer without an 8" snowstorm. All Mackinac Bridge crossers are advised to take the Western loop or trail #473 to get out of Iggy. You should be able to get through OK, but it won't be anywhere near perfect - especially in town, which has not been groomed at all this year. Right now, I will plan on grooming the Northern and West connector trails on Thursday or Friday, and they will probably sit there for the weekend, additional grooming will depend on any snow that we get - if any.
The forecast for this week, should just barely maintain what snow we have, and then we will loose some this coming weekend. Last thing I saw, showed a warm up, and maybe rain on Sat.
Next weekend will be normally like last week of March riding, instead of first week of March riding. There will be ice, and light, wet snow out there. There will be problem spots.
